Common Methods For Large External Cylindrical Grinding
Large external cylindrical grinding, also known as large external cylindrical grinding, is used to grind large parts on an external cylindrical grinding machine. Its main business is to grind the outer cylinder, outer cone, and shoulder end face of shaft workpieces. During grinding, the workpiece rotates at low speed. Longitudinal grinding involves the workpiece moving back and forth longitudinally together, and after each single or double stroke of longitudinal movement, the grinding wheel feeds laterally relative to the workpiece.
Common methods for large external cylindrical grinding include:
1.Horizontal grinding method
Also known as the cutting in grinding method. The transverse grinding method has high grinding efficiency, but the grinding force is large and the grinding temperature is high. Sufficient coolant must be supplied during grinding. During grinding, the high-speed rotation of the grinding wheel is the main motion, while the rotational motion of the workpiece and the continuous lateral feed of the grinding wheel are the feed motion. The workbench does not perform longitudinal feed motion, the width of the grinding wheel is greater than the width of the grinding surface, and the feed is slow until it is ground to the required scale.
2.Longitudinal grinding method
The grinding efficiency is low, but the surface quality is good and the roughness is low. During grinding, the high-speed rotation of the grinding wheel is the main motion, while the rotational motion of the workpiece, the reciprocating longitudinal motion of the worktable, and the lateral periodic intermittent feed of the grinding wheel are the feed motions. After each longitudinal or reciprocating stroke is completed, the grinding wheel makes one lateral feed, and the grinding allowance is ground off after multiple lateral feeds.
3.Deep grinding method
This method has high productivity, but the grinding wheel dressing is messy and requires the structure of the workpiece to ensure that the grinding wheel has sufficient cutting in and cutting out length. When grinding large external circles, the grinding wheel is trimmed into a conical or stepped shape at one end, and the circumferential and longitudinal feed rates of the parts are both very slow. All grinding allowance is ground in one longitudinal feed.
4.Composite grinding method
The composite grinding method combines the advantages of high efficiency of the transverse grinding method and good quality of the longitudinal grinding method. When grinding, first use the transverse grinding method to roughly grind the workpiece in sections, leaving a margin for fine grinding in each section, with a certain amount of overlap between adjacent sections. Then use the vertical grinding method for precision grinding.
