What Should be Noted for POM Material CNC Machining Parts

When CNC machining parts made of POM (polyoxymethylene) material, the following aspects should be noted:

1.Tool selection: Choose tools suitable for POM material processing. Single or double-edged cutting tools are usually used to ensure the sharpness and wear resistance of the cutting edge, in order to achieve better machining results.

2.Processing speed and feed rate: POM material is relatively hard but brittle, so appropriate processing speed and feed rate should be controlled to avoid excessive cutting force and cutting heat.

3.Cutting lubrication: Cutting lubrication is important in CNC machining of POM materials. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to cool the tool and workpiece, reduce cutting temperature and cutting force, while avoiding adhesion of POM material and tool wear.

4.External support: For thin and large-sized POM parts, vibration and deformation may occur during the processing. Reasonably design external supports or fixtures to increase the stability and rigidity of parts.

5.Prevent chip accumulation: POM material is prone to chip formation, especially in small cutting gaps. Regularly remove cutting chips to avoid accumulation and interference with the cutting process.

6.Pay attention to the thermal stability of POM: POM materials may experience melting and expansion problems at high temperatures. During CNC machining, it is important to pay attention to temperature control to avoid excessive heat accumulation and prevent dimensional deviations and deformations of the parts.

7.Surface quality treatment: CNC machining of POM materials usually leaves some cutting marks. According to actual needs, surface treatment processes such as polishing or grinding can be carried out to improve the surface quality of the parts.

When CNC machining POM materials, it is necessary to adjust the machining parameters and processes reasonably based on the specific part design and machining requirements, combined with the characteristics and machining experience of POM materials, in order to obtain the required part quality and dimensional accuracy.
